LOMA LINDA UNIVERSITY HEALTH PRESIDENT CHALLENGES ADVENTIST HEALTH ADMINISTRATORS TO BE INNOVATIVE
The president for Loma Linda University Health, Dr. Richard Hart has challenged Adventist Hospital administrators, accountants and managers from across Africa to find innovative ways of running hospitals in order to get ahead of competition. Dr. Hart said this today when he had an interface with students doing Diploma in Health Administration at Malawi Adventist University College, Lakeview Campus.
A program which Malawi Adventist University is offering in corroboration with Loma Linda University and Adventist Health International (AHI).
He said that the financial challenges that Adventist Hospitals in Africa are facing are not unique to African nations alone. These challenges are all over the world. As such as administrators they are supposed to find ways on how to deal with the challenges.
He further, advised the gathering to desist from dependency syndrome. He said as AHI they are helping Africans in capacity building so that they can stand on their own without needing help from others.
He said AHI is trying to build capacities for Adventist Hospitals in Africa through training, providing of health equipment and capital investment for their sustainability. He however, said that AHI is not a donor organization to provide everything for health institutions.
“We are trying to build sustainable base for institutions. Our goal is to make every institution sustainable and have its own resources to move on.” “AHI is not a donor agency; AHI will not here to pop you up” he said.
Highlighting on why they chose Malawi Adventist University to run this diploma program. He said that, they chose Malawi because it has a long history in offering Adventist health services in the world.
He said: “Adventist health international came to Malawi because of its long history in Adventist health care. Malamulo Hospital has a long history here, Blantyre Adventist Hospital has as well. We look for a place which had a nucleus of activity and people that we could build around. And that’s to be a logical place to do that.”
Speaking earlier, Adventist Health International’s philanthropy and grant management lecturer, Tomi Daniels advised the students to use the donations they get for its intended purposes.
She said most of those who donate they don’t have any connections with the institutions that they give their money to. They cannot even make a follow up on how their resources have been used.
However, she said this should not make the administrators to abuse the funds. But that they should always use the resources to benefit the people they are serving.
On his part, the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Lakeview College who is also the acting Vice Chancellor applauded Loma Linda and Adventist Health International for choosing Malawi Adventist University as a place to run the program.
